Employee Spotlight: Jean

This month’s employee spotlight falls on Jean, who works as a Financial Reporting Accountant at Yempo. Her role requires great accuracy and can be demanding, but Jean reveals that there is great satisfaction in completing a detailed report that helps set the direction for improvement. The role also provides numerous opportunities to become familiar with different departments of the company. What is your role at Yempo?

At Yempo, I work as a Financial Reporting Accountant. My responsibilities consist of keeping the accounting books of Yempo, as well as performing transactions related to accounts payable, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and other corporate requirements.

How long have you been working at Yempo?

I have been working at Yempo for one year and four months. I feel fortunate to learn a lot in that short a time and have enjoyed working with my team members.

What can Yempo employees contact you about?

Employees can contact me about any accounting-related matters such as liquidations and reimbursements.

What are the projects that you are working on in 2019?

This year, I am  working on Yempo Vatable Added Tax claims from the year 2016 to 2018. This task is very crucial as the details are vital in tax claims.

What do you love most about your job?

Working as an accountant is sometimes tedious, but I find the energy to explore other areas of interest. I love expanding my skills.

What is your strongest skill?

My strongest skill is my flexibility. Aside from being an accountant, I also work as a certified freelance event coordinator and am involved in charity work such as volunteering to tutor street children, attending any event for a good cause, and painting.

What was a challenge that you experienced at Yempo, and how was it solved?

My job requires exact documentation, but in my early days at Yempo, my challenge was having limited space for the filing area for documents. Today, that area has been expanded and we have more filing cabinets, so the problem is solved. Yempo responded quickly to my needs.

What do you like best about Yempo’s culture?

I like the employee relationships because the staff is blessed with good people. I feel that we treat each other as friends and family. Also, I like how the staff works as a team to complete tasks. I enjoy the give-and-take atmosphere.

Which core value (commitment, excellence, community) is the most important to you? Why?

For me, commitment is the most important, because if you commit yourself to your job and enjoy working collaboratively, excellence will follow.

Where do you see your career 5 years from now?

Five years from now, I see myself having my own charity foundation and event coordinator business. The experience at Yempo has allowed me to develop my business skills while giving me the confidence to excel as a business owner.

Do you follow any quotes, advice, or motto that might inspire other Yempo employees?

Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learning. You don’t need to pretend to be something you are not. Just be yourself, and everyone will respect you for who you are.
