Employee Spotlight: Joan

This month’s employee spotlight falls on Joan, who works as a Xero Accountant at Yempo. Her role requires great accuracy and can be demanding, but Joan reveals that there is great satisfaction in completing a detailed report that helps set the direction for improvement. Find out what Joan has to say about her work at Yempo and how she sees her future.

Can you describe your role at Yempo?

My role as a Xero accountant both challenges and inspired me. I am an experienced accountant, and I still learned a lot here at Yempo. Working on a project outside of your comfort zone truly does bring out the best in you to advance professionally.

When did you start working at Yempo?

I started working at Yempo on December 6, 2021, which means I’ve been here for 9 months.

What can Yempo employees contact you about?

I may share knowledge on AU accounting-related practices and assist Yempo employees who are unfamiliar with Xero.

Can you share any latest projects you’re working on in 2022?

I am working for an accounting firm that serves a variety of clientele. At first, it was challenging to work on my latest project since it’s a startup company. Eventually, with perseverance and hard work, I was able to resolve the issue, and now everything is functioning properly.

What do you love most about your job?

I love math and I enjoy reconciliation, which may explain why I am a good fit for the job.

What are your strongest skills?

I have OCD because I won’t stop until the work/task is done correctly, which is one of my strongest skills. It exhilarates and satisfies me to organize things and offer every possible way to improve situations.

What was a challenge you experienced at Yempo and how was it solved?

Several times my computer malfunctioned, and I sought assistance from Yempo ICT. It was resolved in less than 24 hours after I requested a computer replacement. And I appreciate the quick response.

What do you like best about Yempo’s culture?

Daily time record is not required, and just after completing my six-month probationary period, I was regularized without the evaluation. I think it’s fantastic that Yempo trusts its employees and takes client input seriously.

Which core value (commitment, excellence, community) is the most important to you? Why?

Commitment is vital because if you are fully dedicated, everything else will fall into place. Then I will strive for excellence to demonstrate my dedication and support the community.

Where do you see your career 5 years from now?

A team leader to a growing group of accountants where I started.

Do you have quotes, advice, or mottos that you follow that might inspire other Yempo employees?

Patience is a virtue, but time is gold. I’m still learning how to be patient; it’s challenging, especially when you’re pressed for time because of deadlines and other stuff. That’s why I do things my way, one step at a time while being considerate enough to not waste anyone else’s time.
